Good Luck Marathoners

There is no formal run scheduled on Saturday. If anyone is interested in running tomorrow at around 8:30 e-mail me richm259@comcast.net

Good Luck Marathoners continue hydrating and keep thinking positive thoughts. The pre-race meeting spot is in the Hilton off of Michigan on that main entrance stairway going to the second floor. Be there at 6:15. Do not follow Jim Raymond's pre-race ritual he has a habit of getting to the line late. Good Luck and may the wind be at your back.

Thursday, October 12, 2006

Practice Saturday October 14th

Meet at Little Red School House at 8:30. Marathoners should do no more than 10. But most of that should be at their marathon race pace. 5Kers should run with the maratoners and push in the finish.

Marathoners be sure to taper - lower your mileage considerably next week. However when you do run - get some miles in at exact marathon race pace so your body knows what to expect on 10/22.

The Classic Ramsgate Workout (hills & tempo)- The perfect workout for marathoners, 1/2 marathoners and those running the Scenic 10. Without having this workout under your belt going into the Fall racing season is like going to a gun fight with a knife or wearing a Shaun Cassidy shirt to an Iron Maiden concert or riding a Huffy at the Tour De France. Sensible runners won't do it.

Here are directions to the meeting place. It's 5 minutes from 40 Acres. From LaGrange Rd. take 123rd/McCartney Road west to Wolf Road (2 miles) . Turn Right on Wolf go two blocks past the Shadow Ridge subdivision and pull into the parking lot on the west side of Wolf.

Friday, July 21, 2006

Practice Saturday July 22nd

Hola,
It's about 13 weeks until the Marathon. That means the M'ers should be doing a long run of about 15-16 miles. Let's meet at Waterfall Glen(the trailhead is on Cass Ave. about 2 blocks south of I-55) tomorrow at 8:15. Marathoners can start earlier and jump in with us at 8:15 or they can add on some extra miles afterwards.

In either case those running at 8:15 be on time so the marathoners don't need to wait for us on their second loop.

Go Floyd!

Wednesday July 19th Practice

Wednesday will be nice and hot for everyone. Come on out and determine where your heat exhaustion threshold is. I may or may not be there due to grad school commitments. But the workout will be easy to follow for all who attend. It's a TTT classic. Meet 6:30 at the forest preserve just West of 151st and Harlem. It is on the North side of 151st. This is where we will start. We'll be doing our "Bridge to Bridge" workout. Warmup to the bridge at Oak Park Ave, and do 3 one way runs with a full 5 minute recovery. The length of each from one bridge to the other is 1.5 miles. Try to group up and stay consistant on each one and HYDRATE.

Thursday, July 13, 2006

Saturday July 15 Practice

It's likely we will have a small turnout this Saturday as most regulars are traveling or racing. For those who want to come out and do a loop, meet at 40 acres at 8:30 AM. You might want to check with a teammate of your ability to ensure a running partner. We can mix in some tempo hills or modify depending on who shows (if anyone). But Wednesday promises to be a good turnout again. E-mail Eva if you're interested in the Monday run.

What better way to shake off those St. Patrick's Day hangovers then to do some tempo at 9:00 Saturday Morning.

We're going to meet at Mike Sommer's house in Frankfort. He's not too far from L-W East. Here are directions from LaGrange.

Take LaGrange Rte 45 South to Route 30. Turn Right on Route 30 (W) go to Elsner Road the first stoplight. Turn left of (S). Take that about 1/2 mile south to Brook Side Lane. Turn Left on Brook Side Lane go to the end of the cul-de-sac and look for the ridicously big red truck. 621 Brook Side Lane. Mike's number is 708-373-2973.

Soggy Saturday Practice 3/11

Let's meet tomorrow at the I&M Bike Trail at 9:00. We'll do the infamous GUTS tempo. There is an an 8 and and 11 mile loop so there is plenty of opportunity to get in some long miles if you're going to Boston.

To get to the Bike Trail take 104th Ave (Willow Springs Road) North to Archer Avenue. At Archer Avenue turn left. Go one block and make a quick right past the gas station. Then follow the signs down to the bike trail.

Practice Update and the Disney Marathon

Practice on Wednesday Jan 11th is at 6:15 starting from the Human race.
Practice on Saturday Jan 14th will be at Little Red School House - the trails are in pretty good shape.

Jeff is coaching on the Thornwood Indoor Track! - Starting Jan 18th.
I will have indoor track workouts on Wednesday nights beginning January 18th, 2006 and ending February 22nd, 2006. Indoor workouts are at Thornwod High School in South Holland. From Orland Park, the drive is about 25-30 minutes. Time to be announced......

These workouts in the past were always fun, successful, and generally everyone stayed injury free. I think our biggest attendance was 40 runners in 2003. The workouts are moderately aggressive short/medium repetition workouts, followed by leg drills. We avoid injuries by switching directions throughout the workouts, and adding a thorough stretching routine after the warmup.

There is nothing like running once a week in in shorts and a shirt when the temps outside are 10-15 degrees. Fitness improves during these workouts also!

John Spannuth Disney Race Update

The race weekend was cold for FL standards especially on SAT for the 1/2 below freezing at the start with strong winds.

Jim Raymond did well running a superb 3:24 good enough for 4th in his age and 281st out of 10,200, this after running the 1/2 while cruising 24 hours prior in 1:34 good for 7th in his age and top 200 finish. What motivates this man? It is all about the Bling Baby! Jim had enough gold to look like he was wearing a MR. T starter kit! Count them 3 Gold medals draping this dudes neck, plus 1 in the mail for his top 5 age group in the marathon. Man this guy well need to do some neck rolls to keep his head straight.

I ran well setting a recent PR with a 3:11:11, if I could have controlled my bowels minus 2 pit stops watch time 3:08! Good enough for 119th, however only 21st in my age, and man I thought maybe top 5 in the Military Division, your tax dollars are being well spent people. 3:11 was only good enough for 11th in the military. See this war is good for something, get fit or die in combat baby!
