The Joliet race is not flat. It has an awesome hill. Great run Carrie.
Finishing second to Roy Pirrung who is an icon in the long distant racing circles is quite impressive. Way to go JR.

Thanks everyone for your kind words. This was truly the most difficult racing experience, on many levels. I sill can't believe I ran for 8 hours and 45 minutes.
My very sore body knows, however.

I didn't think yesterday there was ANYTHING that could make me run another Ultra........but this guy pIrRUNg (as he likes to spell his name)has raised the bar. I googled his name and he has as many web sites and blogs as he does ultra awards.

Well MR. 2007 Master Ultra Runner of the year is GOING DOWN, one day, and I think there is an old SKULL out there who may just get him.
In fact, the guy pulled a fast one on me. I knew he had a beard, but for this ultra I was told during the race, by his friends, he shaved it off.
I couldn't find him at the start to trail him until the end; so that I could out kick him.

my calculations show based on carrie's 8k time

10 x 31 = 310 minutes or 5 hours 10 minutes. let's throw in an 90 minutes for fatigue and Carrie would have won the 50 miler in 6 hours and 40 minutes

Carrie it's time to move up -

crazy!

Thanks for the idea Skullmaster.

Carrie

I am still sore and fatigued from comprehending 8 hours of running...I would shoot myself!

Let's see, it took me almost 3 hours and 15 minutes to drive to the start of the race, and about the same time to drive home.

Pursuant to the Skullmaster's calculations, if Carrie could run 11 minutes faster, she could run the 50 miles and finish before I could drive to the race and back.

O Skullmaster

Can you send me the workout for Wednesday by e-mail or post on the blog?

I have a meeting at 6 but want to do the workout afterwards at my local track...missing too many workouts and I don't want to lose ground.

Thanks.

SKULLS-

Just for the record...the Palos Tobaggan slides are coming down as we speak. I'll be out there today taking some pics and paying homage to an icon of my running career.
Can we swear on this blog...cuz that's what I'd like to do in the general direction of the Cook County Board.

Two comments from the Skullmaster:

It is against my policy to publish the workout on the blog. The Kenyan and Ethiopian Olympic track teams have been known to nose around. Instead it will come to you in a dream.

Regarding the slides - let's take the wood scraps and fashion them into some magical amulets that we can wear into our races to vanquish the competition.

They have ruined that 8 mile loop over the past year. i ran there over the weekend and can now easly drive my car through the loop. whoever approved that debacle should be tied to a tree and left for the coyotes..

I remember burning up a few pairs of leather mittens along the wooden sides of the slides back around 1970.

Ah, such fond memories:
I had my sons walk up the slides
when they 8 and 5 years old. Good character building.
Little did I know the Skulls were lurking in the nearby woods.
