If you're running 18 minutes a mile we'll finish the work-out before you start. You won't even realize it. We'll congratulate you for running hard give you a fist bump and send you on your way. You can tell all your friends you're a real runner.
C'mon, folks, where's the love? We don't all need to be Ryan Hall to be "real runners." In all seriousness, though, an 18-minute miler might not be comfortable with us. We generally run an 8-minute pace for longer-distance runs, and pick it up from there for speedwork. There are other running clubs in the area, and they may have groups who train at an 18-minute pace. For better or worse, we don't. You may also want to consider a different training program on your own, to get more comfortable at higher speeds before you join a group, or look for something from Chicago Area Runners Association. Look online (cararuns.org; halhigdon.com). Good luck, and keep up the work! Steve
